Mercedes Benz has released full details of the engine which will power the upcoming AMG GT.
The all-new unit is billed to make its first appearance under the bonnet of the new Mercedes AMG GT.
Code named M178 the mills spots a 90-degree quad-cam direct injection design, new sand-cast aluminium block engine and boasts a 83mm and 92.0mm bore and stroke measurement respectively.
Borg Warner produced turbochargers mounted in the space between the cylinder banks operates in a parallel state at a maximum boost pressure of 2.3 bar and are cooled by a water-to-air intercooler.
Other interesting features and technology on AMG's second turbocharged production car engine is Bosch supplied Peizo injection system capable of providing up to seven individual injections per cycle, cylinder walls finished with Mercedes Benz patented Nanoslide friction reducing material, a cylinder head produced from a lightly Zirconium-refined aluminium and dry sump lubrication.
The engine produces 503bhp at 6250rpm and 479Ib ft at 4750rpm.
